Lunch on Lockdown

I'm the parent of a high school junior and there were several moments just last year when I wasn't sure that my child would actually graduate from high school. Nevertheless, summer employment and newfound maturity has me less frantic and optimistic that he will walk that stage in June of 2009.

However, upon reading the article in the Ann Arbor News (http://www.mlive.com/news/annarbornews/index.ssf?/base/news-24/1188024603176440.xml&coll=2) about the new high school principal and his new rules, he had me thinking that perhaps what kids need are not new rules but new behavioral approaches by school administrators, staff and teachers. Because somewhere in my mind, something about locking my son, who loves to eat outdoors or hang out with friends in the classroom of understanding teachers, feels like a recipe for disaster or the strong possibility that he will violate the new lunchroom rules.
